In the first episode of our new series 72 Hours With… we join Camille Charrière at Rosewood London and The Chancery Rosewood as she puts the finishing touches to her debut book, Ashamed: A Memoir in Essays.
When writer and content creator Camille Charrière is up against a deadline, she doesn’t get stressed — she just changes her scenery. Checking into London’s Rosewood Hotel, she unpacks her bag — full of “comfy clothes that make me feel good, perfect for writing” — and heads straight to Scarfes Bar, with its classic gentleman’s club vibe. Ordering a coffee in front of the fire, she gets out her laptop to start writing. “I’ve procrastinated for as long as I can,” she says. “I’ve unpacked everything, and now I need to lock in and get this work done.”
Camille’s debut book Ashamed: A Memoir in Essays is scheduled to be released in 2026. Covering everything from friendship break-ups to dating, mental health, and social media addiction, it is tipped to be as witty, sharp, and honest as Camille herself. The book was born out of a 2020 article she wrote for Harper’s Bazaar that went viral. “I wrote this article during Covid about what it was like to fall in love in your thirties,” she recalls. “It went viral, so it was thanks to that I got a book deal.”
“Am I spilling the tea in this book?” she continues. “Yes! I had a really bad friendship breakup five years ago… and I think a lot of women will recognise those feelings. It was a lot worse than any romantic relationship breakup I’ve had. I think it’s something we don’t talk about enough — losing the person you were closest to.”
Camille kick starts the next morning with breakfast in bed, followed by reformer Pilates in The Chancery Rosewood’s brand-new studio, before heading back to the sanctuary of her room for another uninterrupted writing session. “I need to get lost in that hyper-fixation flow state,” Camille explains, “which is what you really want as a writer. You want to forget about time and get lost in your work.”
After a quick check-in with her agent, she accepts the draft is done — “I think I have to let go now,” she sighs. “It’s the worst part, as I always feel that it is not finished, but I have to trust that if there are edits, my agent will let me know” — and she hits send. Draft done, she turns in for a well-deserved early night.
The next morning, Camille accepts Rosewood London’s invitation to join one of their famous pie-making classes and sculpts her own beef and bone marrow delicacy. “Anything that gets you out of your head and into your hands when you’re trying to focus is great, so I thought, why not!”
As checkout approaches, Camille packs away her laptop and reflects on her 72-hour stay. What began as a simple change of scene became the creative momentum she needed to meet her deadline. With the draft sent and her mind clear, she heads home — recharged, refocused, and one step closer to bringing her debut book into the world.
