Ahead of the release of their latest single, Cruz Beckham and The Breakers invited EE72 backstage at their London gig, where Cruz, Dan, Dario and Telmo spoke about life in the band.
Cruz Beckham and The Breakers’ formation was no accident. It was 21-year-old Beckham’s girlfriend, singer, songwriter and producer Jackie Apostel, who first had the vision to bring the four artists together. “My girlfriend, who is a songwriter, had worked with members of the band individually, and then we all got into a rehearsal studio. Sparks flew and from there we knew [it was meant to be],” he says backstage of their recent sold-out gig at London’s The Courtyard Theatre.
Those sparks have been the foundation of soon-to-be hits. With Dan Ewins and Telmo Seixas on the guitars, Dario Scotti on the drums, and Beckham fronting the band with his vocals, the newly formed foursome has introduced their retro-tinged, upbeat indie rock sound with tracks OPTICS, which was the band’s 2025 debut single, and for your love. Both tracks, reminiscent of The Beatles and Oasis hits, were accompanied by music videos washed with nostalgia.
The singles have been attracting fans in their masses. for your love has racked up 235k YouTube views and over 404,000 Spotify streams all within the first month of release. Luckily, for those desperately awaiting more from the new British band, their new single waste your pain lands today. It’s a high-octane tune riddled with optimism, as Beckham contemplates the notion of fresh starts against the backdrop of the band’s electrifying instrumentation.
And, there are two people in particular you can guarantee will be turning in to listen. Beckham’s parents – footballing legend David Beckham and Spice Girl member-turned-fashion mogul Victoria Beckham – have been cheering the band on from the sidelines, attending concerts and making sure Cruz is suited and booted in custom Victoria Beckham, of course.
While it’s clear the band has been busy in the studio, they’ve been sure to take to the stage in equal measure. After hosting various gigs up and down the UK and across Europe, including an emotional stop in Manchester where Cruz’s father and former Manchester United midfielder was in attendance, the quartet will make their festival debut on The For Your Love Tour. Travelling across the UK and America over the summer, the band is set to appear at the beloved Chicago-based festival Lollapalooza, as well as perform shows in NYC and LA.
Ahead of the release of their latest single and the summer tour, we headed down to London’s The Courtyard Theatre, where the band were rehearsing ahead of a gig. There, Cruz, Dan, Dario and Telmo broke down their roles in the band beyond the music and their touring wardrobe.

As a band, how do you create music?
Cruz Beckham: It’s been really fun creating music with the boys. Every day is a new experience. The songs are really personal. I came to the boys with the songs, and then over the last few months we’ve just been in the studio recording them and putting our touch on them.
Dan Ewins: Cruz had a lot of the songs written before we got involved, but then, as we started doing this little run of shows, we got to test everything and add our own flavour to stuff. When we got into the studio, it was super flowy and creative with ideas bouncing around the room. It felt really great, effortless and natural.
CB: Even though we had all of the songs written, we wrote quite a few songs together when we weren’t even meant to be. It just naturally happened.
How did you start making music together?
CB: My girlfriend, who is a songwriter, had worked with the members of the band individually, and then we all got into a rehearsal studio. Sparks flew, and from there we knew [it was meant to be].
What’s your funniest memory together so far?
DE: It has to be Cruz’s dodgy spray tan.
CB: I did send a picture of my bum into the group chat after I’d just gotten a spray tan.
Cruz, what’s the best piece of advice your parents have given you?
CB: The best piece of advice my parents have given me is probably to work on your craft, make sure you’re the best version of yourself that you can be, and be kind and easy to work with. That goes a long way.

Dan, what’s your favorite song to play live?
DE: Waste Your Pain. It slaps. It’s the most fun to play. I think that’s one of the first songs where we got together to play it and really locked in. A lot of musicians will understand the term pocket, which is where you just lock in.
Dario, which Spice Girl would fit into the band best?
Dario Scotti: We like to dress pretty well, so I am going to say Victoria.
Telmo, what’s something you know about Cruz that would surprise people?
Telmo Seixas: He’s a really good and avid barbecuer. He’ll invite you for one even if there’s torrential rain. That’s a real story; he was barbecuing in horrendous rain.
CB: I’ve even done one in the snow.
TS: I haven’t lived through that yet.
Can you talk us through your tour wardrobe?
CB: So, most of the shirts and clothes I’ve been wearing on tour are vintage YSL. My girlfriend has been very helpful with finding those. For most of the shows, my mum has made me some trousers which I’m not meant to be showing you. They’re VB suit trousers; shout out Veebs. We also have some Breakers merch.
TS: We have a Manchester Breakers [football shirt].
CB: That’s going to be sold at Christie’s in 10 years for about one million pounds, purely because Telmo has worn it.
DE: When we were in Amsterdam, we woke up early to raid all of the vintage shops. I found this amazing vintage YSL tie that I’m obsessed with. To be fair, it would look really good on Cruz, but it’s mine.
What’s been the best part of doing the live shows?
CB: Other than the gigs, I’d say that the van journeys have been pretty incredible.
DE: We’ve loved the van journeys, honestly.
What are everyone’s roles in the band, outside of the music?
DS: I play the drums, but I just enjoy myself and hope the vibe rubs off. I give some love out.
DE: I feel like I am the vibe manager. I make sure everyone is feeling good and has what they need. I try to look after everyone’s well-being.
CB: And you try to give us a tequila shot before we go on stage.
Dan: Good well-being includes a tequila shot every now and then. I do the musical direction too. I wouldn’t say I am in charge of that stuff, but I guess I am.
CB: He’s in charge.
TS: I play the guitar, but my role is to make Dan’s life hell and help out with some technical stuff.
CB: I feel like I’m constantly learning from the boys because they’re so talented and they have so much experience. Every single day there’s a new thing to learn. You never know it all.

What should we know about The Breakers?
TS: The gigs are pretty wild. Come and see the gigs.
DE: The live shows are full of energy and vibes. We’re just having the best time.
